Windy City Open 2026 – Day 2: Afternoon Roundup

The Windy City Open 2026 presented by the Walter Family continued this afternoon with four top-half round two matches taking place from the University Club of Chicago.

The day’s play opened up with World No.6 Sivasangari Subramaniam needing four games to defeat the dangerous Egyptian Kenzy Ayman. The Malaysian was in total control in games one and two before Ayman started to attack the front corners with added accuracy and made life hard for the No.5 seed. After losing the third game in a tiebreak, Subramaniam responded strongly in the fourth game to ease to victory, securing her spot in the last eight.

The first men’s match of the second round saw England’s Marwan Elshorbagy take on Youssef Soliman. Elshorbagy had only lost twice in his career to Soliman, the most recent coming at the 24/25 PSA World Championships. Elshorbagy looked sharp and focused in the opening game as he ran out to an unexpected 9-0 lead. He eventually sealed the game 11-3. Despite Soliman equalising at 1-1, Elshorbagy played smart, structured squash to take leads in the next two games to run through and win 3-1.

The third match of the day allowed former World No.1 and 8x World Champion Nour ElSherbini to win a 51st match in Chicago. She made light work of compatriot and friend Hana Ramadan, cruising to a 3-0 victory to reach another quarter final in the Windy City.

The final match of the afternoon session saw giant killer Gregoire Marche earn a place in his first Windy City Open quarter final as he beat wildcard Matias Knudsen in four games to advance to the last eight. Marche, who defeated Diego Elias in round one, showcased his incredible retrieval abilities to nullify the attacks of the Colombian and took the opening game. Knudsen fired back in game two and started to elongate the court, forcing Marche into consistent tough movements. Depsite this being Kundsen’s first Platnium appearance, he equalised in confident fashion.

Marche used his experience in the following two games as he moved through the gears to win 11-5, 11-4, setting up a meeting with Marwan Elshorbagy in the last eight.

The evening session gets underway at 17:00 (GMT-6) live on SQUASHTV.
